Two MPs in the German Chancellor’s party, CDU, resigned over the weekend over alleged kickback payments for state purchases of respiratory masks. The scandal comes only a week ahead of two regional elections.
Tweeting the news on Monday morning, Euronews Political Editor Darren McCaffrey said: “Two of Angela Merkel’s MPs are resigning, following disclosures that they had personally profited from government deals to procure #coronavirus face masks
“All risks damaging CDU ahead of two important regional elections next Sunday in two western states, ahead of GE in September.”
