Alex Domina shot by Loveland police on Aug. 16 dies from injuries
Alex Domina, the 19-year-old man shot Aug.16 by a Loveland police officer, died Tuesday, the 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team reported Wednesday morning.
The teen had been hospitalized since the incident, but succumbed to his injuries late Tuesday, the team stated in a news release.
The 8th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team investigated the officer-involved shooting and presented findings to the district attorney on Aug. 30.
The case is currently under review and the DA is expected to make a decision in early September, according to the release.
Mari Newman, the attorney representing the family, said that Domina died following three weeks on life support, five surgeries and constant infections. She wrote in an email to the Reporter-Herald that his family expresses their deepest gratitude to the community for supporting them through this incident.
“Alex’s family’s greatest hope is that his tragic shooting will inspire mental health training for all Colorado officers so that no other family loses a loved one as they lost Alex,” Newman wrote.
Newman added that “a celebration of Alex’s life” will be held on Saturday at the Crossroads Church in Loveland.
This is an ongoing story. The Reporter-Herald will provide updates as they become available.
