BBC Weather: Heatwave to blast Europe with highs of 40C by Friday
BBC Weather’s Darren Bett forecast highs of 40C in France by Friday as a dome of hot air is set to engulf western Europe. Spain, Germany and Britain will receive temperatures of 38C. Mr Bett said: “It’s going to get hot again across western Europe over the next few days.
“The heat we’re seeing across some eastern areas is still there but it’s not quite as widespread becaus this cloud has been moving in.
“That’s been dropping the temperatures and dropping a lot of rain as well.
“There’s more wet weather to come as those thunderstorms move more widely down across the Balkans.
“Behind that we see sunshine in the west and the temperatures starting to rise even on Wednesday.
“In the southeast of Europe it will be dry, hot and sunny but these showers will be threatening some flooding across the Balkans.
“Showers heading south across Italy are becoming fewer and lighter.
“Some warmth is heading into Berlin and southern parts of Scandinavia but the temperatures here are set to rise even higher as that sunshine and dome of warmth grows.
“The heat hasn’t left Iberia but thunderstorms will still be there in the Balkans and into the far north of Greece on Thursday.”
It comes as Parts of the UK are set for a scorching weekend with temperatures that could reach 36C.
Met Office forecaster Bonnie Diamond said the hot weather will be part of a “warm spell across the UK” but the highest temperatures are expected to be “focused in the south-east of England”.
Ms Diamond said there will be a “mixed” spell of weather at the start of the week.
But she added: “At the minute, and with high confidence, we are expecting 34C to 36C by Friday and Saturday.”

These high temperatures are the result of southerly winds moving from Europe and high pressure patterns that are set to kick in from around Thursday.
Ms Diamond said: “The pressure pattern is generally high so in combination with the southerly winds and high pressure we get settled, sunny and hot weather.”
It is due to come after a “mixed start” to the week.
Sunny spells and generally settled weather can be enjoyed across southern areas but heavy rain is on the way for Northern Ireland and Scotland on Tuesday.
