Boris Johnson warned Brits will soon "feel the effects" of Europe’s deadly third wave of coronavirus as cases continue to rise across the continent.

The Prime Minister addressed concerns over Europe’s rising cases during a visit to Preston on Monday March 22.

Mr Johnson warned the UK will not be able to escape the effects of a third wave despite Britain’s vaccination programme jabbing thousands of people a day.

He said the country can expect to feel the “effects in due course” and added that Brits should be under “no illusions.”

The Prime Minister insisted the government will "bash on with the roadmap" set out in early February.

Mr Johnson said: "On the continent right now you can see sadly there is a third wave underway, and people in this country should be under no illusions.

"Previous experience has taught us that when a wave hits our friends, I'm afraid it washes up on our shores as well, and I expect we will feel those effects in due course.

"That's why we are getting on with our vaccination programme as fast as we can.

"But a vaccination campaign – these are international projects and they require international cooperation to make things happen."
