Boy, 10, obsessed with smoke detectors since Grenfell does pub safety checks
A 10-year-old boy who is obsessed with smoke detectors has taught himself all about the devices, and is even educating local pubs about fire safety.
Archie Eastwood-Burke has been fascinated by fire alarms and smoke detectors for five years and has used that interest to teach adults on the subject, reports Hull Live.
His passion began in 2017 when Archie saw the horrific news about the fire at Grenfell Tower, which killed 72 people and injured more than 70.
The alarms and detectors enthusiast, who has Asperger's syndrome, has been collecting all kinds of fire, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors since and can explain how each of them works.
His passion and knowledge is catching on elsewhere, with fire safety company Fire Angel recently appointing him an honorary Safety Officer, with Archie impressively being able to name all of their products.
In recognition for his passion, infectious enthusiasm and work to spread fire safety awareness, the youngster has been invited to afternoon tea with Hull Mayor Lynn Petrini and some of the Humberside Fire & Rescue staff.
Speaking to Hull Live, Archie said: "I started thinking about how many lives were killed due to fire, and I thought I have to do my part to protect them."

Archie's father, Kristian Burke, 37, said: "After Grenfell, Archie became really conscious of fire alarms in buildings and whether they had them installed.
"He started watching YouTube videos about all the different kinds of alarms and he now has a box of them, from smoke detectors to carbon monoxide alarms.
"He's got quite a passion for it and he always wants to buy more. Anywhere that sells them when he goes shopping he asks if he can have it."
Archie's parents Kristian, a teaching assistant, and Victoria Eastwood fully support Archie's interests, with Victoria saying she was "so proud" of the youngster.
