Britain set for weekend freeze as temperatures expected to drop to -3C

Britain is set for a big freeze this weekend as temperatures are forecast to drop to -3C.

Night-time frosts could be widespread throughout the UK this weekend as temperatures look set to plummet.

And that's not all. After the week of weather started with a washout, we could be ending it with wintry showers as well.

The Weather Outlook forecast reads: "During the weekend high pressure is expected to be centred close to the UK.

"It should lead to a good deal of quiet and rather cold weather.

"Night-time frosts possibly become widespread and later on there is a chance of wintry showers in southern and eastern counties."

But temperatures are expected to be very mild on Wednesday before dropping dramatically in time for the weekend.

A forecaster said: "Temperatures will be the mildest this year, with a chance of 17C on Wednesday in the south.

“But colder air from near Norway and then from the Baltic Sea spills across the whole country from Friday until Sunday.

“-3C could be seen in the south and north, with widespread frost and some wintry showers over the north and east."

While the Met Office agreed the weather is going to turn colder into the weekend with overnight frosts for most.

Experts warned earlier this week that Britain is facing a summer drought horror after one of the most flooded winters in history.

Eight flood warnings were put out across the UK last weekend as the country was battered with even more rain.

Parts of the UK were left underwater after Storm Dennis hit the country last month.

Hundreds of homes were flooded after storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge battered the UK.

Jorge was the fifth named storm of the year, after Dennis, Ciara, Brendan and Atiyah.

Storm Jorge officially ended on March 1 and the next storm which hits the UK will be named Storm Ellen.
