Coronavirus wedding horror as 31 guests infected with disease on special day

At least 31 guests who attended a wedding have tested positive for coronavirus, including a pregnant woman and a member of parliament.

Scott Maggs and Emma Metcalf had 140 guests attend their wedding at Tumbling Waters Retreat, Sydney, on March 6.

Now 14 days on from the special day, a total of 31 cases have been linked to the ceremony.

The couple learned the that two of their guests had tested positive for COVID-19 while they were on their honeymoon in the Maldives.

Among those who tested positive for the disease were Andre Bragg, liberal senator for New South Wales, and Sally Hawach, daughter of advertising master John Singleton.

Mother-of-two Ms Hawach is currently pregnant with her third child, and fears she may have passed the disease onto her children, aged 2 and 1.

She told her Instagram followers: "My one-year-old is showing signs of COVID also and is extremely sick.

"My baby girl had high fevers and I was extremely fatigued with shortness of breath and a rapid heart rate.

"I am very distressed at the thought of having possibly infected anyone. I have contacted everyone I think I have been in touch with, But please if you have been in contact with me since March 6th or anyone with COVID or you show signs of sickness please self-isolate."

The newly-weds were devastated to hear how many of their guests had contracted the disease.

Mr Maggs said: "We were completely gutted when we first found out and we really wanted our friend to be safe and for them to be well. I couldn't really think past that."

"It was the best day of our lives and we wanted it to be remembered for the right reasons. It was the perfect weekend except for this."
