A pasty factory worker has died in a horrific accident at a Ginsters workplace where a lorry pinned him up against a wall.

The man, who was working at the Cornwall Bakery, Ginsters' factory in Callington, Cornwall, was involved in a lorry accident on Thursday, December 2.

A horrified colleague of the man spoke to Cornwall Live and said it happened around 6.30am.

According to the witness, his pal was holding the side curtains of the lorry open before the vehicle went backwards and pinned him against a wall.

Emergency services were called, and the man, who has not been named, was rushed to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, but died of his injuries.

The death is not being treated as suspicious, but it has been referred to the government's Health and Safety Executive.

The source told Cornwall like that concerns “had been raised” about safety on the site.

He said: “We lost our friend, but no-one’s saying nothing about this dramatic accident.

“(The man) was fantastic person.

“He always willing to help others.

“He was living with his mum at Bude and now she's been left with this situation like nothing never happens.”

And a Devon and Cornwall Police officer said: “Just after 7am on Thursday 2 December, police were contacted by the air ambulance following an incident at the Ginsters Factory on Granite Way, Callington, involving an employee and a HGV lorry.
