Greta Thunberg slammed for ‘spreading fear’ over coronavirus as Twitter post backfires
The young climate activist riled up social media trolls who quickly commented on her posts to let the 17-year-old know their opinion of her. Yesterday, the COVID-19 pandemic intensified as Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed that the UK had moved into the next phase of its action plan against coronavirus.
US President Donald Trump also broadcast live, announcing that there would be a travel ban for 26 European countries to the US.
In her posts she said that the coronavirus was the biggest crisis humanity had ever faced but that people should still “create public awareness” and “advocate for change” in regard to climate change.
She wrote: “We can’t solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis and we must unite behind experts and science. This, of course, goes for all crises.
“Now the experts urge us to avoid big public gatherings for a better chance to #flattenthecurve and slow the spreading of the Coronavirus.”
In another tweet she continued: “So I personally recommend that we do as the experts say. Especially in high-risk areas.
“We young people are the least affected by this virus but it’s essential that we act in solidarity with the most vulnerable and that we act in the best interest of our common society.”
She then added in two separate posts: “The climate and ecological crisis is the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced but for now (of course depending on where you live) we’ll have to find new ways to create public awareness & advocate for change that don’t involve too big crowds – listen to local authorities.
“So keep your numbers low but your spirits high and let’s take one week at the time.
“You can join the #DigitalStrike for upcoming Fridays- post a photo of you striking with a sign and use the hashtag #ClimateStrikeOnline ! #fridaysforfuture #climatestrike #schoolstrike4climate”
However, the tweets did not go down well with her critics who began cruelly wishing coronavirus upon the teenager.
One user said: “Go back to school Greta.
Another said: “So the uneducated teenage truant is now an expert epidemiologist as well as an expert ‘climate scientist’.

While another commented: “Wow, now you’re a virologist as well as a climatologist!
“Who knew skipping school was so rewarding.”
One user said: “The only real crisis is coronavirus. @GretaThunberg shenanigans spread coronavirus so well.”
While another user asked Greta: “So why did you have that large gathering in Bristol recently?”
