Harry and Meghan too ‘busy’ for Christmas with the Queen, expert claims
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not return to visit the Queen for Christmas because they are too busy with other projects, a royal expert has claimed.
Meghan and Harry departed from royal duties in March last year and have since embarked on a number of new projects.
Most recently, the couple announced they had signed up as ‘impact partners’ to a sustainable investment firm.
This followed the establishment of the Sussex’s charitable Archewell Foundation, under which they had announced lucrative production deals with streaming titans Netflix and Spotify.
And, with the festive season fast approaching, one expert has claimed that these commitments might mean that Meghan and Harry will be unable to return to the UK for the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas gathering.
Asked on the Royally Us podcast whether the Royal Family will be able to come together for Christmas this year, royal author Stewart Pierce suggested the Sussexes will be absent.
“Harry and Meghan won’t be able to because of their own particular arrangements, because they’re very very busy with the next project – or the series of projects they’re involved in,” he claimed.
“But certainly all the family will be coming together to see the Queen at Sandringham. Particularly because Philip will no longer be there.”
The commentators noted that this year will be a particularly “tough Christmas” for the monarch.
Her late husband Prince Philip passed away in April, just months shy of his 100th birthday, and this has been followed by recent health scares.
After falling ill, an appearance at COP26 was substituted for a video message, and the Queen also decided against attending the annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph.
Despite her setbacks, the Queen had continued to attend public engagements before being taken ill, and Stewart acknowledged: “I find her absolutely extraordinary, the way that she continues, and is a great illustration to us all about how to transcend self-pity.”
Meghan and Harry have not visited the UK together since 2020, meaning the Queen is yet to meet her great-granddaughter Lilibet.
And, the suggestion that the couple will not spend Christmas with the Queen comes after TV personality Lorraine said she believed it would be "lovely" if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were able to celebrate with the monarch in December.
