Interstate 70 closed in both directions from Dotsero to West Glenwood

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed through Glenwood Canyon on Monday due to a crashed semitruck.

A semitractor-trailer crashed in the westbound lanes, and the truck’s cab was hanging down onto the eastbound side of the interstate, according to photos tweeted by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The interstate is closed between Dotsero and Exit 114 near West Glenwood, according to CDOT.

According to a news release from CDOT, the closure is expected to last through the night.

CDOT is suggesting two alternative routes.

The northern alternate route is to head westbound from the Denver metro area, exit I-70 at exit 205 (Silverthorne) and travel north on Colorado Highway 9 towards Kremmling. Then, continue west on US Highway 40 until the intersection with Colorado Highway 13 in Craig. Turn south on CO 13 to return to westbound I-70 at Rifle (exits 87 or 90).

Drivers from the Eastbound route can do the same in reverse.

The southern alternate route is to go westbound from the Denver metro area and travel on US 285 to US 50, and continue west to Grand Junction. Drivers on I-70 can use CO 9 to US 285 south to US 50 or use CO 91 southwest to US 24 to US 50. Drivers heading eastbound from Grand Junction can use US 50 east to US 285 and continue to Denver and areas nearby.

CDOT announced the closure on Twitter at 11:14 a.m.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
