A mum-of-two has been killed after an 84-year-old's attempt to park her SUV ended in tragedy.

Karen Keagen, 58, was at her local post office when the vehicle dramatically smashed into the entrance and mowed her down while she queued inside.

The pensioner was reportedly attempting to park in a disabled space when she accidentally hit the accelerator rather than the brake, sending her vehicle through the shop's glass frontage.

Karen was pinned underneath the vehicle, which stopped after hitting an interior wall of the store in Westheimer Station, West Houston, Texas.

The 84-year-old will not face charges for the fatal incident, which happened as Karen went to the post office to post a package to her daughter Larissa who is studying a the University of North Texas.

Larissa posted on Facebook: "If anybody truly knows me or my sister, you would know that our mother is our entire world, and we were hers."

Karen's other daughter Melody said: "I just love her. She's the best person I know. She's who I talk to every day. Like I text her about everything."

Assistant district attorney Sean Teare said: "We are going to turn over every stone.

"We are going to look at every single thing involved in this to ensure that it was exactly what it looks like, a tragic accident.'

Houston TV news station KHOU reported that the driver lived locally to Keagen.

Authorities have stated that she had no known impairments but investigations of her driving record are still under way.
