More snow headed for Eldora, Colorado ski areas, March 2021

Eldora and Echo Mountain are rejoicing in another upslope spring storm system, while the big resorts farther west mostly received much less.

Eldora, which reported 11 inches Wednesday morning, has received more than 8 feet of snow since snowstorm trends turned favorable for Colorado ski areas at the beginning of February. Echo Mountain, which received 34 inches last week from the storm that walloped Front Range cities, reported 9 inches this morning.

“We tend to see spring upslopes that often bring more snow to Eldora than to other resorts farther to the west,” said Eldora marketing director Sam Bass. “This spring is really delivering. Conditions are fantastic.”

Monarch also reported 9 inches of new snow, while Snowmass and Telluride picked up 7.

Good snow is headed for Colorado ski areas in a storm due to arrive Thursday night, continuing through Friday, and extending into Saturday for some areas. That one, according to OpenSnow, a mountain weather forecasting and monitoring service, should favor southern mountains. OpenSnow meteorologist Joel Gratz expects Wolf Creek to receive 19 inches over the next five days, Purgatory 15 and Silverton 14.

Gratz is predicting 11 more for Echo over the next five days, while Loveland and Winter Park can expect 10. Most other areas can expect 7 to 8 inches.
