Mary Badaracco was last seen on August 19th, 1984. She was 38 years old.

Over 40 years have passed and the police and her family still have no real answers about what happened to her, with one report stating she 'disappeared into thin air'.

It was a warm summer's day on the day Mary went missing from her home in Sherman, Connecticut.

Her car was found in the driveway and her wedding ring was left neatly on a kitchen counter inside the house.

It is understood that Mary's marriage with her husband was a difficult one – filled with adultery and acts of violence.

Dominic, her husband, had an unusual reaction when his wife went missing and according to Mary's daughters, Sherrie and Beth, seemed 'unconcerned about her whereabouts'.

He did not report her missing and even tried to discourage the two daughter's to do the same – which they ignored and did anyway.

Dominic was swiftly interviewed by police, which is where he stated that Mary and him had come to 'an agreement' that they were divorcing and it was time for them to go their separate ways.

He added that Mary acceptingly took $100,000 in cash in a trade for leaving the house and not attempting to obtain it.

The police initially believed Dominic's story and he was left alone.

A year later, someone in Federal Witness Protection made a claim that Mary Badaracco had been murdered.

He told the police that the murder had been carried out as a contract hit that was orchestrated by her husband Dominic.

One theory in the case is that Dominic had used his son, who was a high up member of the Hells Angel biker gang, to put a contract on Mary's head and kill her.

This could have happened after Mary had threatened to go to to the police and reveal Dominic's illegal activities and business ventures – including that of his biker gang son.

It took six years for Mary Badaracco's disappearance case to be classified as a homicide – and an extra year for her to be legally declared dead.

Forty years on and Dominic Badaracco is still the number one suspect in the murder of Mary.

In 2013, even though there was no solid evidence found that Dominic was involved in his wife's murder, he attempted to bribe a judge with $100,000.

The hopes were that the judge would pocket the money and influence the grand jury who were investigating Mary's murder.

Dominic was given a seven year prison sentence but was granted an early release in October 2016.

The remains of Mary have never been found and not enough evidence has been found to charge anyone with her tragic murder.

Her husband Dominic Badaracco continues to walk a free man.
