Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested while taking her infant daughter to see her parents back in 2016. She was later jailed over allegations of plotting to overthrow Iran’s government, an accusation she continued to deny.

She was released to her parents’ home last March due to the coronavirus pandemic and remained under house arrest.

But now her lawyer has confirmed her electronic tags – which limited her to 300m from her Tehran home – have been “cast off”.

Her lawyer Hojjat Kermani said: “She was pardoned by Iran’s Supreme Leader last year, but spent the last year of her term under house arrest with electronic shackles tied to her feet.

“Now they’re cast off. She has been freed.”
