One knifed to death and four wounded after stabbing spree in city street

One person has been knifed to death and four wounded in Amsterdam, according to reports.

The victims are believed to all have been stabbed in the De Pijp district on Friday evening around 10.15pm (BST).

The police have said that the victims were all individually stabbed on or in the immediate vicinity of the Ferdinand Bolstraat, reports AD.

RTL is reporting the person who died was killed on the spot while the other four injured people have been taken to hospital.

There are no confirmed details regarding the condition of the four people in hospital but it is understood that they could be suffering from severe injuries.

A 29-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident however a large police presence remains in the area.

Parool is reporting that police have not yet assumed that it was an act of terrorism committed

No details have been released or recorded by witnesses regarding a motive for the attack.

No official statement has been released by police but a spokesperson said: "Helping the victims is now our number one priority."

People in the area commented on the large number of emergency vehicles in the area including two air ambulances and a police helicopter.

A local company wrote on Twtter: "Anybody know what's going on in #Amsterdam right now?

"That's a lot of sirens and a police helicopter, too. Apparently they're converging on Ferdinand Bolstraat, and I don't think they're just getting some FEBO."
