‘Socks with sandals are OK for over-50s but women should avoid miniskirts’

Socks with sandals, woolly cardigans, and trousers with elasticated waists are OK for the over-50s.

But women should stop wearing miniskirts in their mid-40s and fellas ought to bin their baseball caps when they hit 56.

Oldies’ group U3A – University of the Third Age – polled members on whether people should “dress their age” and abandon clothes that are “too young” for them.

Just 24% of those who replied agreed.

When ­people hit experiences U3A chief executive Sam Mauger warned: “We don’t want to be fitted into a uniform stereotype, especially when it comes to fashion and style.”

It comes after the iconic mullet hairdo sported a comeback throughout lockdown, surprising most of us.

The barmy barnet worn by stars in past decades is being brought back by celebrities like Cara Delevingne and Miley Cryus.

The iconic do was seen again in Joe Exotic, the infamous Tiger King, in Netflix's hit documentary series.

Late last year, a top British barber says the 'modern mullet' will be the must-have haircut this year.

Tony Copeland, co-founder of the British Master Barbers Alliance, said: “The modern mullet is only going to get ­bigger in 2021.

Sadly, the hairdo became laughing stock and died out, until stars were seen sporting a modern version at fashion events in 2020.
