The 12 reasons you can leave your home during coronavirus lockdown in UK
To tackle the spread of coronavirus the Government has imposed strict limitations on movement in a countrywide lockdown.
The overriding message is to stay at home as much as you can to limit the spread of Covid-19.
The Government hope this will help to flatten the curve, and suppress the peak of coronavirus cases to help ease the pressure on the NHS.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson explained: “If too many people become seriously unwell at one time, the NHS will be unable to handle it, meaning more people are likely to die. Not just from coronavirus, but from other illnesses as well.”
But the Government do understand there are some instances when people have to go out, for their health and other reasons.
Here is a full list of the reasons you are allowed to leave your home during the coronavirus pandemic.
- Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
- One form of exercise per day, for example a run, walk or cycle – alone or with members of your household.
- Any medical need, including to donate blood.
- To avoid or escape risk of injury or harm.
- To provide care or help to a vulnerable person.
- Travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home
- To move children under 18 between parents’ home if they do not live together.
- Key workers and parents of vulnerable children can leave to take children to and from school or to their childcare provider.
- To move house, but only if it’s unavoidable.
- To attend a funeral, but only when it’s a member of your household or a close family member. If the deceased doesn’t have any family attending, you can attend as a friend.
- To attend critical public services – such as social services, support for victims, support provided by the Department for Work and Pensions.
- To fulfil legal obligations when physical attendance is absolutely necessary.

Keep in mind these reasons are exceptions and even if you have to do these activities you should be minimising the time spent outside of the home.
You should also ensure you are two metres apart from anyone outside of your household.
